Fellow Classmates, i have pasted an email below that i received regarding the selfless act of cadet Christian Mundy.

Colonel Mercado,

I wanted to reach out to you regarding a member of your Corps of Cadets at the Citadel, Christian Mundy.

Wednesday afternoon on April 4^th one of my students, best friend, and fraternity brother suffered a heart attack while tossing the football on Marion Square. The student, Matt Tamburri, is 19 years old student from New Jersey and suffers from a congenital heart issue and slight arrhythmia. After complaining of dizziness he passed out and gasped for air as his heart beat slowed to a stop. Mr. Mundy ran over and administered CPR while a friend of his called 911 for an ambulance. By the time he was put into the emergency vehicle, Mr. Tamburri had a slight and labored heart beat.

For a week, myself, his friends, and family did not know the young man who performed CPR. For us, he was an angel in disguise.

After the story made its way through the grapevine at the College, one student identified the young man. Christian Mundy of Orlando, FL, a member of the Corps of Cadets, had saved Mr. Tamburri’s life. And I mean this quite literally. Doctors at the Medical University have plainly stated that had CPR not been performed that day, Mr. Tamburri would not be with us.

Last Thursday, we were lucky enough to have Mr. Mundy come to the Medical University to meet the man whose life he saved. (I have attached a picture)

Mr. Mundy could not have been more humble about the entire process. Just for the brief period we met with him, you can observe the highest of moral character and a sense of duty to help his fellow man. I see him as a perfect example of each of the Core Values that the Citadel instills in each member of the Corps. Although the College and the Citadel have sworn to be cross-town rivals since our very founding, it is comforting to know that regardless of Maroon or Blue we are brethren who share the land between the Cooper and Ashley Rivers. If one is in need of help, the other is there to provide it. We are selfless in service to one another and to our historic home of Charleston.

Today, Mr. Tamburri went through one of two procedures to mend his heart. His first surgery this morning was successful in patching the hole in his heart. With news from his father, he is doing well in recovery. Tomorrow morning, he is scheduled to have a defibrillator and pacemaker placed. Doctors believe there will be about two more weeks of recovery before he can return home.

Any commendation this Cadet should receive I believe is completely earned and deserved. I could not imagine going a day without seeing Matty and I, like his family and friends in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, will be eternally grateful for Christian Mundy.

Sorry to all my Citadel Brothers for not showing up to the reunion. After 5 weeks of congestive heart failure, my 91 year old grandmother passed on Sun. Thanks for all of you that were praying for her, but she is smiling and happy on the other side. I guess I'll see you all at the 25th!

Well, we probably shouldn't because it doesn't matter now (and never mattered then) but I couldn't resist the opportunity for some cheap "trash-talk".

I bet we'll see some more good-natured needling, boasting, and "remember when" stuff if this forum ever comes alive and starts getting lots of posts.
